CALE ATKINSON
Cale Atkinson is a self-taught artist who began creating and selling his comics while still in elementary school. He boldly began submitting his work to newspapers, magazines, and syndicates as a teen. (If you ask nicely he may share his binder of rejection letters from entities as varied as The National Enquirer and Cat Fancy magazine!) Then he went on to work in video games and animation, before finally coming full circle as a full-time author and illustrator.
Cale is the three-time winner of the Canadian Chocolate Lily Award, winner of the Shining Willow Award, and was shortlisted for the British Columbia Book Prize Award, the Doug Wright Award for Best Kids Book, and the Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Award. His books have received four Kirkus starred reviews (and counting!), have been translated into 10+ languages, were selected a CCBC Best Book, and a Toronto Library ‘First and Best’ Book, and many of his titles are Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selections.
Cale and his pup, Charlie, call British Columbia home, but when he’s not working, Cale loves to travel the world, make up songs on his ukulele, and bake delicious things like peach semifreddo and, his favorite, pumpkin pie.
