DANNY POPOVICI
Danny Popovici immigrated to Portland, Oregon from Romania (and can speak Romanian!) when he was four years old. He earned his BFA from The Art Institute of Portland with a focus on animation design and visual development, and tells stories through urban sketches, water color painting, and digital composition. He’s done visual development, storyboarding, and concept design for clients including Bent Image Lab, Big-Giant, Nickelodeon, Honda and Cap’n Crunch. This immersion in animation, and exposure to the principles that make strong visual storytelling, made for a natural transition to children's books.
Danny's debut picture book Manjhi Moves a Mountain, written by Nancy Churnin, was a Children's & Teen Choice Book Awards finalist, an Ezra Jack Keats finalist, was on the ILA-CBC Children's Choice list, and won the South Asia Book Award (Grades K-3). When he's not hunched over his drawing table, he's out hiking the Oregon wilderness with his four-legged Aussie Shepherd, Ollie.
